News — World Mental Health Day 2024

At Fremlin Walk, we are proud to join millions around the globe in celebrating World Mental Health Day 2024, a day dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for mental well-being. Founded by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH), this day holds special significance as it coincides with the 75th Anniversary of the WFMH. This year’s theme, ‘It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace,’ highlights the vital importance of mental health within professional environments.

The WFMH’s Global Campaign is designed to engage employees, employers, and organisations in promoting mental well-being at work. The goal is simple: to foster work environments that prioritise, protect, and promote mental well-being. After all, a mentally healthy workplace is not just beneficial for the individual, but for productivity, morale, and overall organisational success.

Celebrating with Tea & Talk

An integral part of World Mental Health Day is ‘Tea & Talk’—a heartwarming initiative that encourages people to get together, talk about mental health, and raise funds for vital mental health causes. Whether you join a Tea & Talk or simply take a moment to check in on a colleague, the conversations we start today can have a lasting impact.

Tips and Tricks for Managing Your Well-Being

Managing our mental health, especially in the workplace, can be challenging. However, there are steps we can take to nurture our mental well-being.

  1. Talk About Your Feelings
Don’t hesitate to share your feelings with a colleague, supervisor, or friend. Opening up about stress, anxiety, or challenges can reduce the burden and even lead to helpful support or solutions.
  2. Stay Active
Regular physical activity, even something as simple as a walk during lunch or light stretching at your desk, can help you feel more focused and improve your overall mood. Exercise boosts self-esteem, reduces anxiety, and helps you sleep better, all of which contribute to improved mental health.
  3. Take Breaks Throughout the Day
Pausing for five minutes here and there to clear your mind can work wonders. These small moments of rest help you re-energise, prevent burnout, and improve productivity.
  4. Eat Well
A balanced, nutritious diet can have a direct impact on your mental health. Foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats are essential for both your body and brain.
  5. Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is critical for emotional regulation and mental clarity. Prioritise rest to give your mind and body the recovery time they need. Make sure you give yourself time to unwind by switching off distractions an hour before you want to head off to sleep.
  6. Nurture Hobbies and Interests
Building a life outside of work is essential for your mental health. Whether it’s painting, gardening, reading, or playing an instrument, hobbies can help reduce stress, increase creativity, and boost self-esteem.
  7. Look Out for Each Other
Mental health is a collective responsibility. If you notice a colleague struggling, check in with them. You might both be dealing with similar stressors, and sharing experiences can build strong, supportive connections.

At Fremlin Walk, we are committed to supporting mental health initiatives, and we hope you’ll join us in celebrating this important day. Let’s continue to foster a community where mental health is always a priority!
