Events — Sandling Primary School Eco Team Partner with Fremlin Walk for Recycling Initiative!

27/06/2024 until 01/06/2032

We’ve joined forces with Sandling Primary School’s Eco Team for a fun recycling project. Building on our successful partnership last year raising awareness of pollinators, the Eco Team this year jumped into the world of recycling!

The students dove headfirst into research, exploring the concepts of recycling, its impact on climate change, and the different materials that can be given a new life. We invited them to come down and become Fremlin Walk Eco Team members for an afternoon – and even created special hi-vis jackets for them.

A highlight was the on-site recycling centre, where the students saw the impressive cardboard crusher, transforming cardboard into massive bales for recycling. The Eco Team was impressed by our clear organisation, and designated areas for materials like metal, glass, food, and plastic waste. They were further excited to learn that no waste ends up in landfills, instead being diverted to a transition facility – did you know this?

The exploration continued with a visit to the beehives nestled on our rooftop, where the students interacted with the beekeepers. The beekeepers even offered a chance to hold a honey-filled frame.

The Eco Team interviewed our retailers through a pre-prepared survey. Their focus? Understanding the ease of recycling at Fremlin Walk and exploring potential improvements.

With the results of the survey, the Sandling Eco Team hope to be able to help Fremlin Walk become even greener.
