Mental Health Awareness Week: 5 ways to a mindful me

Mental health awareness week is a week to highlight the importance of mental wellbeing, reduce stigma and encourage open conversations. It’s also a reminder for all of us to slow down, reflect and check in with ourselves.

This week we will be sharing five simple ways you can take care of yourself and be a little more mindful, not just this week but all year round.

Take a Social Media Break

Ditch the dreaded doomscrolling this week and unplug. Constant scrolling can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious or drained. Often leading to lower self-esteem, poor focus and sleep disruption affecting our mental wellbeing.

Taking a short break even just for an evening, can help you reset and focus. Try replacing screentime time with something calming like reading, crafts, listening to music or journalling.

The works have a huge range of craft kits from crocheting, mosaics to keyring making. They’re perfect for pausing and taking some time to unwind and you’ll have a great new masterpiece to show off too!

Have a Self-Care Evening

Taking a self-care evening lowers your stress hormones and puts a break in the cycle of constant daily pressure and signals your mind to go into relax mode. This small pause can help prevent burnout, improve sleep quality and lower anxiety, leaving you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the next day.

A self-care evening doesn’t need to be extravagant, its about intentionally setting time aside to recharge and relax.

Your self-care evening could include:

  • A warm bath or shower
  • Lighting a candle and winding down early
  • Watching your favourite comfort show
  • Journaling or reading

Take a trip into Boots and browse their extensive range of face masks, skincare and bath products. It’s the perfect place to build your perfect self-care evening, pair a face mask with a luxury bubble bath or grab some skincare products and give yourself an at home facial. Giving yourself time to pause is essential to prevent burnout its not optional is a necessity.

Lift Your Mood

Small mood boosters can have a surprisingly big impact on your day. They work by triggering feel-good brain chemicals, giving you little bursts of happiness throughout the day. Take a moment to notice the things that bring you joy and make space for them.

This could be:

  • Getting outside for fresh air and sunlight
  • Wearing your favourite scent
  • Moving your body with a short walk or stretch
  • Treating yourself to something you enjoy

Scent has a big impact on your mood and they can be strongly tied to personal memories, a certain scent can invoke feeling of safety and calm. They can also alter the body chemistry, for example lavender can help you feel calm and relaxed or citrus scents can make you feel uplifted and alert.

The fragrance shop at Fremlin Walk has a wide range of perfumes stocked, you’re sure to find one that reminds you of a happy memory. They also now have the Being range of perfumes that are scientifically designed to enhance emotions.

Take Time to Talk

Talking about how you feel can feel difficult, but sharing your thoughts with someone you trust or a professional can be incredibly powerful.

You don’t need to have the “perfect words.” Simply starting a conversation can help you feel supported and less alone.

Remember: it’s okay to ask for support.

At Fremlin Walk we are proud to host Bupa Mindplace, providing in-person and remote therapy offering confidential and personalised care for both insurance and self-pay clients.

Catch Up With a Friend

Human connection Is essential for mental wellbeing. Making time to catch up with friends provides social support, loneliness and lowers your stress levels through laughs and connection.

A quick coffee, a phone call, or a walk together can go a long way.
